About Us
About Us
The Ulster Federation of Credit Unions was formed in 1995 having previously been a member of the National Federation of Credit Unions.
Our main aim as an organisation has been to be more professional in our approach and outlook and to help our member credit unions do the same. We have 38 affiliated credit unions in Northern Ireland and in recent times our primary focus has been to improve overall governance standards, to introduce the concept of Responsible Lending, and help our affiliated credit unions understand their anti-money laundering responsibilities. As a responsible organisation, we have worked closely with our colleagues in the Irish League of Credit Unions to ensure that the UK government is aware of the many challenges facing Credit Unions in Northern Ireland.
Our Mission
To act on behalf of our affiliated credit unions with key stakeholders to ensure each credit union is adequately informed regarding developments within the credit union sector and adequately trained to meet their member's needs whilst at the same time satisfying the requirements of our regulators.
Our Vision
To empower local communities to work together for the benefit of their local economy by pooling their savings and providing those in need with affordable credit facilities.
