About Us: Carrickfergus Credit Union was registered in 1989 and our collections where made in the Orange Hall. We moved to premises in West Street which proved unsuitable being on the second floor of the building. A further move to Albert Road saw us realising we would have to buy property and this we did, buying 34 Albert Road.
This credit union is run entirely by volunteers who have been very loyal in their attendance.
In 1995 we went computerised and at that time had a membership of 200. Since then the membership has grown to over 2,000.
Information: The commond bond of this credit union is that to join you must live or work in the Borough of Carrickfergus.
History: Carrickfergus Credit Union was established in 1988 as a 'Savings Club' with the minimum requirement of 20 members. We were first located in the Orange Hall on the Albert Road and remained there for 5 years. There were then moves to West Street in 1993 and 59 Albert Road in 1996 as a permanent suitable location was sought.
We were fortunate that in the year 2000 an ideal site became available just across the road at 34 Albert Road. There had been a shop at this location, which meant the conversion to a credit union premesis was simpler.
Being at a permanent location seems to have provided the local community with an added confidence in Carrick. Credit Union as our membership has grown from just over 200 at the start of 2001 to well over 2000 currently, with more joining each week.
